For 50 years, this building has stood here – once a military barracks, clearly visible, yet hidden behind bars and walls for decades. Where order and discipline once ruled, the FinKa now opens its doors: an open-minded place shaped by history, hospitality and flair.
ON THE WAY
Right in the middle – and close to all.
The FinKa is centrally located in Mals, directly on the historic Via Claudia Augusta and just 100 m from the village centre. The nearby train station takes you to Merano, Bolzano, Austria or Switzerland – free of charge with the Südtirol Guest Pass. In summer, the FinKa is the perfect basecamp for cyclists and long-distance hikers. The legendary Stelvio Passstarts almost at our doorstep, along with countless trails and bike routes through orchards, meadows and mountain lakes. In winter, the ski resorts of Watles, Schöneben and Haideralm, as well as the cross-country centre in Schlinig, are only a few minutes away. Ski tourers will also find ideal routes in the surrounding area.
And for those who love to stroll: the geometric artwork by Esther Stocker welcomes you at the lift tower – a modern landmark in the heart of the Vinschgau Valley. Looking for tips or tour ideas? Just ask – we’re happy to help.

Food, just the way you like it. In our cosy first-floor restaurant “Spaccio”, wood-fired oven, vintage Viennese charm and warm Vinschger hospitality come together. From your first morning coffee to a late-night drink at the bar – this is a place for food, stories and easygoing company. We serve what we love ourselves: varied breakfast, fresh pizza from the oven, hearty South Tyrolean dumplings. Homemade, regional, full of character.
Prefer to cook your own meal? Our Open Kitchen is always ready – well equipped, relaxed, and open to whatever you feel like preparing.

Old walls, fresh thinking, open landscapes: Focused days, relaxed evenings – on foot, by bike or sharing stories in the garden over a glass of wine.
